“Former Hospital – Second Phase”

The project, named “Ex Ospedale – 2nd phase”, located in the municipality of Rieti, falls within the scope of Order No. 8/2021 of the Special Commissioner for Reconstruction in the territory affected by the 2009-2016 earthquake and has the objectives of adaptive reuse restoring parts of the complex, improving energy efficiency and mitigating the building’s seismic vulnerability.

This is a portion of the architectural complex known as “Ex Ospedale Vecchio” that stands in the historic center of the city and consists of a building complex composed of several buildings that are volumetrically organized into blocks.

The project concerns a two-story building and some external areas to be renovated, consisting of the courtyard surrounding the block, the retaining wall on which “already demolished buildings of the former hospital” stood, the sidewalk along Via Tancredi, and the mezzanine located on Via Vignola.

The intervention is characterized as a work of urban regeneration, restoring to the city a first piece of a complex urban reconstruction of the central areas that are partially in a state of abandonment.
